sloppy and unfriendly, outright hostile

Posted by Raffon on 8/6/2009

I have been going to this place for a short while for the chicken and I was asking the unfriendly and almost hostile watresses and girl at the cash register if they would consider making the chicken without sauce like many of the progressive barbecue restaurants around and they got absolutely hostile and told me that if I didn't like the chicken, "don't buy it" Can you imagine if the owner heard that, if the owener even knew that these watresses and the girl at the register were that unfriendly and hostile to feedback, they'd be fired if they worked for me...the place is sloppy and they aren't at all hospitable...I have been there a number of times and ask for them to give it to me dry, but asking that really seemed to cause them to be hostile, and saying "don't buy it" to a regular customer surely shows my how undfriendly they must have been when I was just figuring they were unhappy with their job...I will never go there again and will tell people just how hostile and unfriendly they are...I own a business and have been in customer service jobs too, so I do know how they should be behaving toward pleasant customers

Timeless Place, Timeless Food

I've been going to My Brother's since I was a toddler. It is located a half-a-block's walk from my grandma's house. Every Sunday, at least 5 or 6 our large family would walk across the street, and grab some BBQ...you can't stay away! I haven't been in a few years, since I moved to the east coast, so I can't speak to some of the recent negative reviews. But the guy complaining about the sauce....well, that's just a matter of taste. I know for a fact that they haven't changed the recipe in 50 years, because I order a case of it by mail, its THAT good. Even with all of the gourmet BBQ sauces you can find in the supermarkets these days, none of them even comes close to the perfectly balanced, just a hint of spicyness, sweet and savory sauce My Brother's makes. My favorite has always been their simple, yet perfectly cooked beef sandwich....layers of paper-thing sliced tender beef, that's been roasted to perfection, on a delicious squishy bun....perfect for just soaking up tons of that amazing sauce! I suggest you all go in to this quaint, affordable local landmark and give it a try. This place is truly historic...not many of these kinds of family-owned businesses left on Ventura Bld., anymore....the Acapulco's and the Cheesecake Factories have been pushing these LA legend restaurants out for years. Support the movement for REAL FOOD....get to My Brother's!

Delishous

Great food Great location

Old time Woodland Hills

This near "hole in the wall" has been around since the early sixties, I think. The barbequed meats are reasonably moist and not overly slathered with sauce. There are large, but not insane portions. The prices are low. It comes off like a family affair.

Good service, Rustic atmosphere, mediocre food

I had high expectations when I went to My Bro's BBq, it's been here forever and survived the fall of "Love's BBq" to be the last man standing for years, and has that great cow on the roof. However, looks can be decieving, I ordered the Chicken sanwich which looked much better than it was. The sauce was so sweet that I could barely stand two consecutive bites, and made my lemonade taste bitter by comparison. The servers were very competent and were their saving grace. I heard about a new BBQ place not far away on Victory blvd. I hope I have better luck there.
